Hi, I'm Maddie

I named my practice Calmer Waters Therapy, PLLC ™, because for many of my clients, life feels like being in a tiny boat as it's tossed around in turbulent waters. They feel left to navigate the waves, storms, and troubled seas by themselves, and are isolated in their pain and confusion.

While therapy isn't a miracle cure - it takes an investment of time, vulnerability, and more to see payoff - my goal is to help you sail your boat into less stormy seas. If you let me, I'll do my best to help guide your boat into the calmer waters ahead, and prepare you for whatever you may weather next.

Maddie's Story

Maddie brings an impressive academic background to her counseling career. She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from The Loyola University of Chicago in 2019 (ranked amongst the best 150 schools in the nation by The US News & World Report), and obtained her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University in 2021 (ranked as the #7 university in the United States, #24 in the world by the US News & World Report), where she graduated in the top percentile of her peers.

Maddie spent her first two years practicing counseling supervised by Ohio's leading suicide specialist, where she worked primarily with teenagers and young adults struggling with active suicidal ideation. Maddie also worked with a variety of other clinical issues, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and more.

Called to work further with trauma disorders, Maddie returned to Chicago, where she specialized in treating trauma. Working as an EMDR therapist, Maddie counseled veterans, first responders, and civilians to treat a variety of trauma and complex-trauma cases. In particular, Maddie worked extensively with adult survivors of childhood family sexual trauma. Maddie also used her EMDR background to treat other mental health issues, and found it to be a flexible tool useful in many areas. As she was becoming increasingly interested in building resilience among service members and veterans with trauma, she volunteered with veterans associations in the Chicago area, including Soldier's Angels and Patrol Base Abbate.

In North Carolina, Maddie went on to work with the Marines, Sailors and spouses of the School of Infantry-East as an embedded Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) from 2024-2026. As a military spouse herself, Maddie was grateful to have the opportunity to help service members and their loved ones in times of crisis. During her time on SOI-E, Maddie made it her mission to understand the daily life of the Marines and Sailors around her, and she become a recognizable resource across the base. She particularly enjoyed joining her battalions on their hikes, especially around the holidays.

Now, Maddie has branched back out into private practice, where she continues to counsel service members, first responders, and other adult populations. She is excited to be able to offer a broader scope of services than ever before, and she looks forward to working with you, and helping you on your journey to well-being.

Let’s get to work.
